Comment on Why I Believe In A Young Earth by AZFlyfisher.

“I believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old. This is not in itself an article of faith, and I might be wrong about it, but the burden of proof is on the old-earth promoters.”

Scientists have determined the Earth to be approximately 4.55 billion years old. There is ample evidence using many different methods. Anyone making a statement that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old is simply making statements without anything to back it up.

Twain was an intelligent man, but was limited by the knowledge of his time. Plate Tectonics, Ice ages, and other environmental pressure including those caused by man have affected the Mississippi River. The quote is cute but irrelevant.

Here’s some good reading on the topic: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-age-of-earth.html
